Watergardens Shopping Centre

At the heart of Watergardens Shopping Centre, the food court is the junction of multiple malls. The space functions as an urban plaza, the community focal point for meeting and waiting and an anchor to the off-shooting mall arterials.  The design is based upon an interplay of scale, lightness, solidity and permeability, revealing an interior landscape of shifting views and perspectives, extending vertically into the volume of the architectural space, like a town evolved from the landscape over time.  Large format, solid materials at a low level frame the familiar pathways of community life.  Scale and materiality then erode and lighten, as the built forms increase in height, inviting interaction and exploration of these meandering spaces.
